This week in Toddler House 2 we are working on work mats! Work mats are a great way to define a workspace as our own. Toddlers love to have their own personal space and sometimes it’s hard to communicate that to others. That’s where working mats come in! Work mats help our toddlers to create a space that they can call their own. It shows their peers that the items on the rug are being used and are not available at the time being. Using a working mat also builds toddler’s sequencing skills, as they learn the steps to properly use one. This process includes picking up a work mat with two hands and carrying to the desired space, unrolling it carefully, bringing work to the rug, completing work, returning items to the shelf, rolling up the rug, and returning it to its proper storage space.
