Infant House 2

This week in Infant House 2 we introduced a morning Montessori work cycle to our older infants who are preparing for their transition to the toddler room soon! Since our older infants are no longer drinking bottles and going down for naps in the morning they have the ability to be introduced to a work cycle. A Montessori work cycle is an uninterrupted block of time currently about 20-30 minutes at their age but once they reach Children’s House their work cycles last 1-3 hours. During this time children are able to explore the prepared environment and engage with materials of their own choosing. The time is meant to give them opportunities to enjoy the work they love, while also cultivating basic life skills. Our little ones were coloring on paper at the table, working with water transferring materials and refining fine motor skills with knobbed puzzles. The Montessori work cycle helps children become more independent, strengthens their focus and allows them to feel satisfaction in their work.
